Hi! A few years ago i bought a flyer from 1953 for the Edna Theatre. I purchased at an estate sale in town. It shows the coming attractions for January 10-28 of 1953. I loved looking up the movies and imagining what it would be like to get dressed up spending a few hours with Bob Hope or Marlon Brando!
This past Thursday I visited the Estate Sale of A.W. And Joan Stallings. I purchased the program for the grand openings of the Long’s New Edna Theatre! On March 14, 1950 the new theatre opened. The program was dedicated to The Edna Cowboys and iIt is full of Edna History.

The theatre opened March 14, 1950. No expense was spared for the opening day! A street parade was organized featuring the Cowboy Band and a concert broadcast on the radio.

Included in the program are photos and an article on Edna Schools. Missing from the article are pictures of the Edna Colored school. (George Washington Carver was not built yet.). This is a link to a wonderful article on the history of the Edna Colored School and has some pictures. It is well worth your time to read! https://theclio.com/entry/125647 Also as a note the Edna Mexican School was closed in 1948.

There are some pictures included in the booklet.

The opening of the new Piggly Wiggly is one of my favorites. It lets you glimpse into what 205 W. Main looked like in 1950 when it was new! E. W. Pietsch and H. C. Boysen were the owners of the Piggly Wiggly. Here is a link to the Edna Herald for March 2, 1950. https://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth761990/m1/7/?q=Piggly

Featured are the 1949 Edna Cowboy Football team and Band.
